Mayor's Update JAN 2025

Page Header:
Hello Village residents!

I'm pleased to share that we had a successful "Seniors Helping Seniors" event on May 22, 2025.  With collaboration from the Indian Lake High School and Principal Dave Coburn, we had approximately 14 students volunteer their time and their servant hearts to help two senior homes that were nominated by the residents from the village.  Sheryl Hazeltine and Tom and Dawon Harford received help with their yards.

Brian Emans, Manager from Lowes Bellefontaine, donated mulch, dirt and flowers.  Additionally, residents Laura Hall and Crystal Davis Mitchell made a donation towards the event.  Council member Sandy Knott and IL community resident Theresa Smith leant a hand as well.  Chief Michael Thompson and Officer Chuck Wirick were on the scene helping the students too.  Jenilee Borek from ABC22/Fox45 covered the story and it was aired that evening.  One of the students had stated that "if we could get this much work accomplished in 2 ½ hours with just seven students per home just think what we could do with 30 or more students".  Well stated young man!  These students were absolutely amazing!  I encouraged them to come back to the community after college and find their way as a civic leader.  We would be honored to have them serve in that capacity.  It was a pleasure meeting and learning about their goals after graduating from high school.  The IL community should be proud of these students and their willingness to help people, I sure was!

Next spring, we will conduct this event again. Revitalizing our community and lending a hand to those who may need a little extra help is a great way to exhibit care and kindness towards our neighbors, it's truly contagious!  As we go through the summer months, think about who you might help this season, reach out and show goodness to your neighbor who may need a hand.  The rewards for the heart and soul are tenfold.

Thank you to everyone who participated.
